The Story Line: (Warning: Spoilers if you have not seen the movie)
I shall began with my love towards the story line. It's sort of quite different from the other old Disney Princess movies because in the beginning it doesn't start off with our protagonist, Pocahontas, but with our deuteragonist, the handsome captain John Smith. (Yes, I have a fan-girl crush on him). And then similar to all my other favorite Disney Princess movies, our protagonist meets her problem. In this case would be the death of our handsome brave Koccum; it's sad that he have to die but without his death the story cannot continue. (Your death is not in vain, Koccum) Koccum's death cause the spark for the Indian to start a war (which did not even began) with the British settlers. And yet once again our hero saves the day with her courage and true love. However here's the difference, the movie ends in a cliffhanger as John Smith gets shot and sent back to Britain for saving, and Pocahontas chooses to stay in her village. Would the two love birds ever unite again? If you know what happens in the second movie, don't spoil it for me please.
The Characters:
Pocahontas: Our protagonist. I just love her! She doesn't have the old typical western princess grace and poise, but she has the 'attitude'. <- And that's what I love her. I mean she has the bravery to jump of a waterfall and jump across a huge gap between land. Tell me which other princess can do that? Okay other than Merida, but she comes like a decade after this movie.![]() |
| Flit - Pocahontas' Hummingbird |
John Smith: Our lead-male. Just look at that hair. How does it keep it shiny all those days without showering at all. (Same goes for Pocahontas) Well, that's all I got to say for him, he doesn't really have a character development in the movie for me. I simply love him for his looks.
Flit: I simply just love that hummingbird, I mean which bird would do all that for his owner? That guy got an attitude and I love it.
The Meaning:
The meaning is a hard one to explain; simply because that everyone has a different meaning toward a text. But for me it's that 'never judge a book by its cover'. I believe in this quote so much, because sometimes I'm being judged by my peers by my actions. And my actions are my cover. However some might disagree. But the main point is that don't judge something by just the way they look, no matter it's an animal or person. Always get to know them first and it's still not to late make your judgement then.
